Trattoria in Nea Eryhtrea is your typical local Italian joint. And that’s a compliment.

Vincenzo Zanni opened the restaurant in this upcoming posh suburb north of Athens, Greece, in 1999. Way back when there were very few establishments in the neighbourhood and good Italian food was hard to find, despite the Athenian nouveau riche aura that was emanating the city. Offering tastes from various regions of Italy, and not only limiting the menu on pasta and pizza, Vincenzo made a name for himself as well as for Trattoria by offering simple but properly executed Italian recipes. In 2005 he was awarded the certificate for Authentic Italian restaurant abroad by Italy’s Foreign Minister.

Vincenzo Zanni, chef and owner of Trattoria What’s so special about Trattoria? Make sure to try the tomato focaccia as a starter, whether you’re gonna have a pizza as a main course or not. Any pasta you try you won’t be disappointed, although my favourite one is a classic Penne Arabiatta. Very tasty house wine is also served. For those that want to go all the way, there is also great Tiramisu for the perfect ending.
