It was probably a couple of decades back when a Cretan family migrated to Thessaloniki and opened up shop in this central location, catering to university students and locals alike. Allos Tropos speaks to the heart of us that love great food but also a good ambience to go with it.

This very cute meze place is now second generation, often referred to as Taverna Kosmas, and sources great Cretan delicacies from the family’s hometown Arkalochori just outside of Heraklion. The family also seems to have a thing about the infamous mantinades, Cretan wise words that rhyme, which decorate the walls of the restaurant alongside some great books you can borrow!

Next time you want to have a brief lunch or dinner with some really good raki and tasty bites head to Allos Tropos! We tried some very tasty chicken on the sauce pan (aka tigania), Cretan cheese puffs with honey (aka mizithropittakia) and some kick-ass fried cheese! Oh, and their famous dakos salad, always a treat when eating authentic Cretan food.
